The Responsibilities Of The Role Include • Performs setup, programming and operation on a variety of machining equipment. • Machining products to tight tolerances. • Working independently and as a team to achieve maximum quality. • Computing and verifying dimensions to ensure accuracy. • Observing all applicable safety practices and immediately reporting any unsafe practices or conditions. • Recognizes and understands flight/product safety critical parts and processes. • Responsible for immediately reporting flight/product safety concerns. • Participates in proactive risk analysis of flight/product safety critical parts and processes. • Reads and interprets specification manuals, blueprints, templates and layouts to determine machining operation to be performed. • Computes dimensions and tolerances and measures and lays out work pieces. • Verifies dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, gauges and micrometers. Troubleshoots, debugs and modifies to achieve expected performance. • Adjusts and sets up machine tools for use by machining tool operators. • Participates in continuous improvement of cell processes. • Cross trains in other complementary skills and seeks endorsements for those skills as needed to support production requirements. • Moves between production assignments that utilize multiple skills endorsements as needed to support production requirements. • Participates in the cross training of other technicians as needed to support production requirements. • Responsible for observing all applicable safety requirements and reporting immediately any unsafe practices/conditions. • Carries out other duties as assigned. Education Requirements High school graduation and completion of a diploma training program at a college or technical school. Technical Requirements • High degree of mechanical aptitude, accuracy and precision. • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing, tool design, fabrication methods and processes, metallurgy and heat treating. • Working knowledge of related company instructions, company processes, rework process instructions, original equipment manufacturer manuals, and MSDS labels. • Working knowledge of production management computer systems and other related internal control systems. • Regularly required to stand for prolonged periods. • Completion of a machinist apprenticeship program; or equivalent. • Attainment of trade certification. • Directly/indirectly related work experience representing continuous learning and required for someone to perform this job competently is one to three years. The Requirements For An Ideal Candidate Include • The ability to read and interpret manuals, technical drawings, and blueprints. • Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments and hand tools. • The ability to follow both written and verbal instructions. • The ability to lift up to 50lbs without assistance. • The ability to stand for extended periods of time. • Working knowledge of welding, hydraulics, electricity and pneumatics. • Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints. • Strong mathematical aptitude. • Position fulfillment is 2nd shift Monday-Thursday 3:00pm-1am. StandardAero Houston is a premier business aviation MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) facility specializing in the service of mid-sized corporate jets. We support an extensive range of aircraft models, including renowned brands such as Falcon, Hawker, Challenger, Learjet, Gulfstream, and Embraer. In addition to comprehensive airframe services, the facility features a state-of-the-art engine shop and test cell, ensuring top-tier maintenance and performance for both engines and airframes. The Sheet Metal Mechanic performs internal and external sheet metal repairs, modifications, and installations to all aircraft serviced at the facility. Researches and develops repair schemes using blueprints, engineering orders, service bulletins, and other technical publications. Fabricates various sheet metal parts in their entirety by interpreting blueprints, calculating angles, diameters, and bend allowances, and then cutting, shaping and forming the part. What To Expect In This Role: • Perform structural aircraft repairs using appropriate sheet metal techniques and fasteners. • Remove, replace, and relocate headers, stringers, doors, beams, and bulkheads while building up surfaces and structures to specifications. • Install Service Bulletin kits using parts and instructions provided by OEM. • Plan and develop schemes for sheet metal repairs and modifications by utilizing blueprints, sketches, service bulletins, OEM specifications, engineering orders, and other technical publications. • Use precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and protractors, to accomplish repairs or modifications. • Inspect aircraft in accordance with OEM Light or Heavy Maintenance manuals and evaluate removed components for serviceability, documenting discrepancies. • Document all work accomplished in a clear, concise, and accurate manner. • Accomplish Service Bulletins, Repair Letters, and Airworthiness Directives as required. • Analyze various mechanical problems to determine causes and the best methods of repair. Basic Qualifications: • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. • A minimum of 3 years sheet metal fabrication experience required. • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed. • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and stand for 8 hours per day. • Ability to bend, stretch, crawl, and climb ladders to access difficult areas within the aircraft. • Capable of working outside in extreme temperatures and inclement weather. Preferred Characteristics: • A valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) License • Corporate aviation experience strongly desired.
