Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To • Act as the on-site manager, representing the company to customers and the community. • Perform various carpentry tasks including framing, finishing, and cabinetry installation. • Supervise and assign work to other carpenters and helpers. • Understand and manage all job paperwork: budgets, plans, specifications, and change orders. • Manage project budgets and discuss with management as needed. • Schedule and coordinate subcontractors, ensuring adherence to company policies. • Prepare and inspect material takeoffs and orders for accuracy and quality. • Maintain a clean and safe job site, ensuring daily cleanup and debris management. • Protect and respect customer property and adhere to all site security measures. • Ensure job safety for both customers and workers. • Document and get office approval for any extra work or changes requested by customers. • Monitor the project schedule and communicate delays or changes to the Production Manager. • Check in with the Production Manager daily to report on progress and discuss needs. • Follow through on all tasks, resolving any issues and completing all loose ends. Key Responsibilities • Install, repair, and restore slate and tile roofing systems according to historic preservation standards. • Safely remove existing roofing and prepare surfaces for reinstallation. • Cut, shape, and fit slate or tile using specialized tools with precision and care. • Install underlayments, copper or lead flashings, and ventilation systems. • Diagnose and repair common roofing issues such as leaks or broken tiles. • Maintain a clean, organized, and OSHA-compliant jobsite. • Collaborate with foremen and fellow crew members to ensure quality workmanship and timely completion. • Travel to project sites as needed with lodging and per diem provided. Qualifications • 3-5 years of experience installing tile and/or slate roofing systems. • Skilled in working with Vermont slate, Ludowici clay tile, or comparable materials. • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, project specs, and roof layouts. • Knowledge of traditional installation techniques and historic roof systems. • Comfortable working on steep slopes, at heights, and in outdoor conditions. • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. • Physical ability to lift 50-75 lbs and work in a labor-intensive environment. • Willingness to travel for multi-week projects. Preferred (Not Required) • Experience with copper flashing, lead work, or sheet metal details. • Knowledge of mortar bed installations or historic roof preservation practices. • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
