Broadwind Energy has an opening in our Abilene plant for a Prefab Long Seam Operator. We are busy and that's good. This position is on our B Shift - 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. Monday through Friday. This shift comes with a $2.00/hr shift differential. Interested? Keep reading. The role of this job is to fabricate and weld steel structures and components to customer specifications utilizing applicable WPS and work instructions. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (May include some or all of the following responsibilities) • Follow all work instructions and weld to established parameters • Preheat welds • Weld GMAW in the flat and horizontal positions • Clean weld joints • Visually inspect joint for cleanliness and depth • Visually inspect part prior to quality inspection • Fit parts keeping offset in spec, making sure orientation and alignment marks are correct • Measure lay-out • Fabricate simple weldments to print • Perform basic maintenance tasks such as changing wire, drive rolls, liner, contact tip, clean equipment, and replace consumables • Operate overhead crane after certification • Properly inspect rigging equipment and use proper rigging technique • Record job and labor code information in time matrix • Actively support all EHS and continuous improvement initiatives • Basic handling of Oxy fuel torch • Other duties as assigned Qualifications Academic/Experience/Credentials/Certifications • High school diploma or GED required. • 6 months of welding experience or, completion of a welder's training program or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Overhead crane after certification (can be completed after hire) • Candidate must be able to pass a Jaeger J2 vision test • Must be able to pass new hire drug tests as well as periodic randoms. Specialized Skills/Knowledge/Ability • Must be able to complete and pass weld qualification test(s) • Able to read and follow all weld training and certification information Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend documents including technical information and blueprints. Ability to speak effectively before employees and as a representative of the Company. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Strong ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several variables at the same time. Currently we are looking for 4 Painter II's with proven leadership experience and skills. Interested? Keep reading. Requirements Broadwind Heavy Fabrications is searching for experienced painters to join our team in Abilene, TX. Although these positions will start on different shifts, they will all move to night shift positions in the coming months. Two painters will start on A-Shift to train (6 am to 6 pm Mon thru Thursday) and two painters will start on C-Shift to train (6 a to 6 p Friday thru Sunday). The C-Shift position comes with a $4.50/hr shift diff. These positions will prep and paint exterior of sections, utilizing applicable paint work instructions to ensure quality and production needs are met. If you want a job that is rewarding with great benefits, check out the job duties below: • • Properly mix paint per customer specifications • Manually mix zinc and apply to customer specifications • Apply epoxy to exterior section to customer specifications • Properly mix and apply mist coat • Prep the system for paint which includes, reviewing for cleanliness, scraping and cleaning metalizing areas, air blowing section by hand and wrapping paint lines • Use spray gun to paint section to customer specifications • Measure paint thickness with wet mill gauge • Maintain paint system prior to painting operations • Perform basic maintenance task on paint equipment (clean equipment and check for obvious leaks) • Paint with minimal quality issues (runs, sags, dry spray, pinholes) • Maintain cleanliness of work area • Record job and section information in time matrix • Previous leadership experience preferred. • Actively support all EHS and continuous improvement initiatives • Must be able to pass observed pre-employment drug test and randoms Academic/Experience/Credentials/Certifications • High school diploma or GED required. Prior work related experience helpful. • One to three years of painting experience preferred with an airless paint system. • Knowledge of materials, production processes, quality, raw materials and other techniques, methods and tools involved in the process of painting steel support structures. • Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education or skill in the painting of wind tower support structures approved by Management/Human Resources. Specialized Skills/Knowledge/Ability • Understanding of painting equipment, which includes understanding how to set pump up. • Understanding of how to analyze cleanliness of section and the coding system. • Ability to efficiently and independently operate drum car, fork lift, and pallet jack. • Ability to properly use wet mill gauge, dual action sander, air drill, air wand, and grinder to perform all tasks associated with position. • Understand spray gun position and pattern which includes overlap, distance from gun to section, and proper gun handling procedures. • Able to locate and reference all work instructions pertaining to current job or project. • Understanding of department KPIs, metrics and measurables. • Sense of urgency and accountability. • Must pass respirator and paint test. • Must be forklift certified. (can be obtained on site) Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend documents including technical information and blueprints. Ability to write reports, and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before team members. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
